Dye blankets: Goldenrod and Avocado

I made a dye liquor with goldenrod flowers and avocado skins, separately. Boiled them for a couple of hours and left them in the pot overnight. The day of dyeing I heat the pot again and take out the plant material (with a strainer).

I dye the silk by simmering the scarves for an hour.

Dry and wash. The goldenrod one (that was yellow) I dipped in iron (ferrous sulphate).

Four scarves. I is iron, T is tannin. All target scarves have alum.

  1. I target + avocado blanket

  2. avocado target + (I+T)blanket

  3. avocado target+ I blanket

  4. (avocado + T) target + I blanket

Iron with goldenrod became green. Iron with avocado became dark purple, almost black - because of the high content of tanning in avocado skins.

The goldenrod+iron green scarf. I put leaves dipped in iron for an hour.
