Raw silk with and without tannin + bookcloth + bookbinding

First experiment

Target: Iron

Blanket: Iron

Leaves: Sweet Gum, Horse Chestnut, Birch, Coreopsis, different Oaks, Maple, Hydrangea, Wild Geranium, Wild Asparagus, Casuarina, Smoke Bush, Redbud.

second experiment

Target: Tannin

Blanket: Iron

Leaves: Sweet Gum, Horse Chestnut, Oak, Japanese Maple, Hydrangea, Compass plant, Willow, Casuarina, Mulberry, Redbud.

 

Making bookcloth:

  • Put the silk on a glass surface

  • Spray with water

  • Cut washi one centimeter bigger than the silk, all around.

  • Apply paste to washi

  • Flip the paper and glue it on top of the wet silk

  • Apply a brayer carefully, paper make break

  • Leave it to dry on glass for a day

  • Peel the bookcloth the next day.
